The Orleans Citizens Forum continues to present forums on subjects important to the quality of life in our community such as the excellent one on Frauds and Scams presented by Jennifer Wagner, store manager of TD Bank and Police Sergeant Andrew McLaughlin on Thursday November 21, 2019. Those in attendance were made aware of the many problems associated with fraud and theft in our community and were provided strategies and tools to avoid them. It was an excellent presentation and extremely helpful to all.
Pop-up messages on your computer; suspicious looking emails; risks shopping online;
robo calls; phishing; ‘grandparent’ scams; identity theft.
These are just some of the threats we face every day.
In November 2013. OCF held a well attended forum on ‘Frauds and Scams’. It was time to do it again this year. The crooks have become a lot smarter. We need to get smarter too. We all need to learn how to protect ourselves. We need to learn how not to become victims. If we are victimized we need to know what to do. We had a full house coming to learn about the latest threats to our security. Orleans Police Sgt. McLaughlin provided a review of his experience with frauds, phone and internet scams, and identity thefts. It is a long list. Jennifer Wagner, Store Manager of TD Bank, Orleans, discussed financial frauds and scams. Our panel provided guidelines to help you become more aware of the threats around you. A question and answer session followed the presentations.
