What You Can Do
Orleans Citizens Forum
Wednesday January 26, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
You already know that climate change is causing rising temperatures, severe weather and melting ice caps. At this forum, we need to talk about another threat to our environment – the destruction of our ecosystem. We will also discuss the value of green space, the need for open space, the importance of using native plants in our yards, how to identify and deal with invasive plants, and examples of what some people are doing in Orleans to help combat climate change.
We are losing our native plants, and along with them, birds and insects vital to our ecosystem. Thankfully, this is something we can control and there is growing awareness of the problem and solutions.
Join us to learn from our panel of experts:
Why native plants are critical to our green spaces
How invasive plants threaten our ecosystem
What pollinator pathways are all about
What the town of Orleans is doing to manage its open space
Ways individuals and private groups can protect our environment
What the home gardener can do to help
Our Panel:
Kristin Andres, APCC Associate Director of Education and Information
Robert Cunningham, Orleans Open Space Committee, Chair
Stephen O’Grady, Orleans Conservation Trust, Executive Director
Ginney Farber, Orleans Conservation Commission, Chair
