UPDATED …!
The DPW Facilities Project Design
On Thursday, March 24, 2016, from 3:30-5:00 p.m., the Orleans Citizens Forum presented a panel discussion on what is planned for the DPW building to over 55 citizens.
The panel consisted of:
- Jon Fuller — Selectman, Town of Orleans
- Tom Daley — Director, Orleans Department of Public Works & Natural Resources
- Jeff Alberti — Project Manager at Weston & Sampson
- Peter Coneen — Chairman of the Department of Public Works Facilities Feasibility Study Committee
Each speaker addressed their respective areas of expertise. Tom Daley described the make-up of the Department of Public Works & Natural Resources, explaining that the composite organization occupies more than a dozen locations throughout the Town, with many of the locations inadequate in size, of limited capabilities and many not in compliance with current codes and standards. He presented pictures of many of the sites and described the impact upon the operation of the department.
Peter Coneen described the mission and activities of the DPW Facilities Feasibility Study Committee and explained that many of the locations are fundamentally the same as they were 50 years ago and in critical need to improvement. The over-arching goal of the Committee’s proposal is to consolidate all the disparate groups into one central location with adequate space and facilities up to specifications and code.
Mr. Coneen summarized the specific cost estimates:
o Building size — 37,242 sq. ft.
o Construction cost — $12,640,000
o Soft costs — $950,000
o Design fees — $900,000
Total Project Costs — $14,490,000
