The Orleans Citizens Forum presented a forum on Emergency Preparedness, April 23, 2013, at the Old Jailhouse Tavern Conference Facility in Orleans.
Panelists included:
- Tony Pike — Orleans Deputy Fire Chief
- Scott MacDonald — Orleans Police Chief
- Sean M. O’Brien — coordinator of the Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee
- Catherie Nass — American Red Cross
- Donelle Donery — Cape Cod Disaster Animal Rescue Team
Sen. Dan Wolf was invited but unfortunately was unable to attend due to late meetings at the State House. The Moderator was King Nelson.
The focus of the forum was to learn directly from emergency responders the things one should do in preparation for emergencies such as those caused by hurricanes, tornadoes, hazardous chemicals, flooding, etc. Too often we wait for the last minute to check our flash lights or check our generators and buy food and bottled water.
The expert panelists provided information on what to do long before the threat of an emergency occurs and also discussed how the various organizations coordinate across Barnstable County in both the planning and direct response to an emergency.
The forum was recorded and can be seen by clicking on the VIDEO screen below:
